I think Arena Net has some how forgot about what they say not to "gloat" and when they release EOTN with the Charr Gloating over your dead body, they thought it be fun to give use the "pleasure" as well. seem they need to check what they say before doing something.

It does not feel good for another player to "gloat" over your dead body, people have done that to me once before, it does not feel good.

Change my mind, now that i think of it, charr doing it is quite cute. lol but definitely not another player.

eeeps, have mental pictures of typing wars on screen ....

like someone mentioned before PVE foes actually have a use for this. Whats more its part of the immersive experience of PVE, we are supposed to find them annoying, unlikable and generally offensive.

there is a difference between a computer program PROGRAMED to act like this as part of the story and some twat repeatedly doing it as an insult (effectively replacing or adding to comments like "nub, idiot haha ownd etc").

Are you being intentionally dense? Fine, I'll play along. You also brought up plenty of other definitions which do not mean the same as insulting. Therefore, the definition of taunt does not completely overlap with the definition of insult.

You can taunt without insulting the other player. This is usually found in cases where the players are not completely immature and don't get upset over trivial victory /rank'ings.

I am pretty sure most people don´t mind mocking or teasing from good friends or people you know well. The same done by a complete stranger is an insult.

OK, whatever someone's character does to your virtual 'corpse' is about as insulting as someone saying "you suck." If that hurts your feelings, stop dying, or simply stop playing. Stand in town and chat. But beware - someone might still say "you suck!"

From a personal standpoint, I think this update is a load of crap, but not because it's 'insulting.' I will still use my tourney points to get keys, and I will still open that chest because I love gambling (with virtual cash, that is). It's inevitable that I will get this title over time, but I care not. Just a waste of time, IMO. Not like I will use it after the first time just to see it.

So, yeah... "You suck!"

A lot of it depends on the kind of taunt. Ranking is pretty tame - it's not much different than /cheer or whatnot, and that even from a stranger isn't much.

What is usually considered insulting taunting is typically done over chat, and that's up to the players, not ANet.

It is the decision of the taunted, if they think it is a tease or an insult, not yours. That is why, you should just not taunt at all. It is the best way to avoid misunderstandings.

For example "Spear chucker" is not insulting to me. But apparently there are enough people, that think otherwise and therefore that word is forbidden in GW.

So, I can say that I perceive you telling me I look good as an insult, so it must be? I mean, even if I don't feel insulted?

In other words, anything can be "perceived as an insult," especially over the internet where it is very difficult to tell the true intentions of others (no body language, facial expressions, etc.). Flashing this emote of a spear (and whatever else) gouging into the corpse of an enemy you just gouged with a spear (or whatever else) to make into a corpse really doesn't sound insulting, or even taunting. It sounds like you're trying to make sure they're dead. It sounds like a bit of fun in the moment. It sounds almost RP - not insulting, all in good fun.
